Rainbow obsidian is a rare variety of volcanic glass found primarily in Jalisco, Mexico — its multicolored iridescence created by nanoparticles of Hedenbergite caught within the volcanic glass as lava cooled in fractions of a second. From one angle: deep, opaque, still. Shift it toward light and the surface ignites — green, violet, gold — a rainbow that was always there, invisible until conditions were right. Ancient cultures knew this stone as "Eye of Heaven" — the name given to something that sees what ordinary eyes can't.
That stone sits at the center of a hand-woven oxidized copper cauldron frame — each coil and scroll formed by hand — with 2 wire-sculpted flowers blooming from its surface. A rainbow moonstone flower. A pink tourmaline flower. Peridot leaves in electric green, the ancient Egyptian "gem of the sun," mined from a volcanic island in the Red Sea for over 3,500 years.
